The 2030 Agenda encompasses a wide range of sustainable development goals, from the fight against poverty and hunger, to gender equality and access to affordable energy, to responsible consumption and the sustainable use of marine resources. It concerns the areas of ecological responsibility, social solidarity and economic performance. Accordingly, the federal government, the cantons, communes and organisations from the business community, the financial centre, academia and civil society are all involved in the implementation of the SDGs.
All of these actors are key drivers of sustainable development. From today until 31 May 2025, they can submit their assessment of the current status of SDG implementation, using the 'SDGital2030' portal. To upload input, a link can be requested from SDGital2030@eda.admin.ch.
The assessment will form the basis for the country report in which Switzerland will present the status of its implementation of the SDGs at the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York in July 2026. Reporting is voluntary. Switzerland already presented a country report at UN headquarters in 2018 and 2022. The report enables it to make a national assessment of its progress and draw a comparison with efforts at the international level.
The FDFA is responsible for drafting the country report and coordinates the assessment gathering process. The 'SDGital2030' portal, where the information is collated, makes it possible to focus on the key areas of the respective activities of the various actors involved. Those who took part in the last assessment can simply update their input. The last assessment (2018–22) can be viewed on the dedicated website www.SDGital2030.ch.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was negotiated and adopted by all UN member states in 2015. The Federal Council considers it to be an important orientation framework for its policy on sustainability. In addition to the 2026 country report, the findings from the assessment will also be incorporated into the further development of Switzerland's sustainable development strategy and action plan.
