High-calibre feature films and documentaries from all over the world will be screened at this year's International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH), including seven Swiss productions. The creative documentary 'Free Men' by Anne-Frédérique Widmann from Switzerland will be shown as a world premiere. Discussions on current global human rights issues – such as the Rohingya crisis and the effects of digital development on democracy and human rights – will also take place as part of the festival.

The FDFA will be addressing priority themes of Swiss foreign policy, holding debates on the protection of human rights defenders, the worldwide abolition of the death penalty and on the rights and humanitarian situation of refugees and migrants.

On the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights this year, the FIFDH and the FDFA, together with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, are also organising a Human Rights Film Tour through 45 countries, including Zimbabwe, China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Cuba and Guatemala. As part of this, Swiss embassies in the countries concerned will be organising events based on the FIFDH's 'one film, one topic, one debate' format, and will be screening films on human rights issues that are Swiss productions or co-productions.

The FIFDH will take place this year from 9 to 18 March. It is one of the world's most important human rights film festivals, giving a voice to victims of human rights violations and their defenders. It attracts around 36,000 visitors every year.
