The Swiss saxophonist and composer Juliane Rickenmann began her music career at an early age. She was 18 when she began her international career; she travelled to Australia and managed to finance her trip by playing in the street and in jazz clubs of Melbourne. She then continued her musical journey to Japan and New York where she met and co-operated with numerous international artists. In 2000, after several international musical tours and experiences, Juliane came for the first time to China, precisely in the southwest city of Chengdu where she got hired as saxophonist for two years. She will be back in China in June 2015 with her new album « EMEI » - homage to the Mount Emei in Sichuan. She will play with her group J. Richenmann 4tet together with Ornella Ponnaz (piano), Pierre Kuthan (bass) and Giacomo Reggiani (percussion). « EMEI » invites the listeners to discover various kind of music which inspired Juliane during her stay in China. It refers to the Mount Emei, one of the 4 sacred Buddhist Mountains in China with a massive ten-faces statue of Buddha Samantabhabra on its summit mounted on the back of a giant white elephant. When Juliane climbed Emei and reached the Golden Summit, she was profoundly touched by his radiance and energy. She later decided to name her son and her new album “Emei”.

On the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Switzerland and China, the Consulate General of Switzerland in Guangzhou, in co-operation with the Swiss Foundation for Photography in Zurich, is showing the exhibition “CHINA BETWEEN YESTERDAY AND TOMORROW” with 65 photographs by the Swiss photographer Fernand Gigon from the 1950s.
Besides getting a glimpse of the diverse Swiss cultures, visitors to the event organized by the Consulate General of Switzerland in Guangzhou will also acquire practical knowledge of Switzerland as an attractive investment location, appealing travel destination and leading country in energy utilization following three seminars on trade, travel and energy.
The exhibition will show work and projects by Venezuelan-born, Swiss-based architect Christian Kerez who seeks to elucidate his particular approach, which emphasises how architecture does not exist in and of itself, but is rather a reflection of a practice of questioning, and of working with the unexpected. At its core, the things we take for granted must be seen again, in a new light. The exhibition will present examples of his designs together with his photography and video works, among them models of a high-rise in Zhengzhou, the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, Leutschenbach School, House with one wall.

Through reverse thinking, Curator Mei Huang has built a bridge for the Chinese and Swiss artists to have an in-depth dialogue on the contemporary art, with the Chinese artist Tan Ping elucidating his abstractness and Swiss artist Luciano Castelli exploring his figurativeness. The exhibition has offered a rare visual feast for audience to enjoy the clash of and the resonance in different cultures.
