Project Manager – 100 %

The Embassy of Switzerland in Jordan is looking for a Project Manager to reinforce its Disaster Risk Reduction / Water Team, with a focus on flood mapping. Switzerland has agreed to support the Government in establishing a National Flood Mapping Programme and in developing national flood risk and flood hazard maps. The project manager oversees the successful design, and implementation of the National Flood Mapping Programme.

Flood mapping is technical but also requires the collaboration of multiple stakeholders towards the same objective. Therefore excellent communication, coordination and networking skills are key for this position.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Project Manager is working as a local employee of the Embassy team under the overall guidance of the Regional WASH Advisor. The list of tasks includes the following:

  • Create and maintain a network with actors working on DRR in Jordan, especially the Secretary Generals of the relevant Ministries, their Technical Advisors and the National Center for Security and Crisis Management;

  • Lead discussions on technical topics and negotiate in decision making processes with the decision makers of the relevant Ministries;

  • Monitor the work progress of the technical unit consisting of experts of Ministries and other national stakeholders (unit is producing the maps) and provide support when needed.

  • Coordinate and facilitate the communication and collaboration between all stakeholders proactively;

  • Assist to the organization, and attend the meetings of the steering committee;

  • Plan, organize and facilitate meetings, trainings and workshops providing technical assistance according to the project’s planning;

  • Identify the needs for external expertise, plan and the support of Swiss and other experts;

 

  • Contribute to the design of the programme, development of the project document and documents for internal approval upon request of the Regional WASH Advisor;

 Profile & Requirements:

 

  • Master degree in Hydrology, Hydraulics, Water / Environmental Engineering or equivalent;

  • Minimum of 10-years’ experience in international cooperation or related field;

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in Arabic and English;

  • Profound experience in networking and stakeholder coordination;

  • Good knowledge of the mandates and working modalities of the various stakeholders involved in DRR in Jordan (Ministries, donors, implementing agencies, etc.);

  • Good knowledge of the political, economic and social situations of Jordan;

  • Working knowledge of DRR, risk and/or flood hazard mapping and GIS;

  • Knowledge in GIS and hydraulic modelling is an asset;

  • Solid computer skills (MS Office);

  • Good experience in project management;

  • Team player and service orientation;

  • Able to work under pressure and to embrace challenges;

  • Willingness to take responsibility, ability to work in an autonomous, proactive and results oriented way
