Emergency Food and Nutrition Assistance DPRK 2019

The Emergency Food and Nutrition Assistance DPRK 2019 Project responds to an urgent request of the DPR Korea to extend food assistance to its citizens in 2019, following a poor harvest after a nation-wide heat wave and regional floods in 2018. The assistance will be provided through the World Food Programme (WFP) and targets 50,000 children in the three highly affected provinces of the country, South Hwanghae, Ryanggang and Jaggang for a period of 12 months.

Allocation of SDC Funding to ICRC Operations in 2019

In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises. SDC funding to ICRC operations allows the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to respond proactively and to provide immediate protection and assistance for people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence.

WASH Programme

01.02.2017 - 31.12.2020

The intervention focuses on the basic humanitarian need of access to WASH services through raising hygiene awareness, construction of WASH facilities and capacity building in rural areas. Providing sustainable access to WASH services shall improve the health of 40'000 beneficiairies through access to robust infrastructure, safe sanitation and protection of water sources that will also reduce exposure of rural communities to natural hazards.

Sustainable Livelihood and Disaster Mitigation (SLDM)

01.02.2017 - 31.08.2023

The intervention works on the nexus of DRR, food security and agroforestry and successor programme of the Sloping Land Management programme (SLM). Building on SLM, food security remains central, but DRR is the principle concern of the domain of intervention. Combining food security and DRR increases the scope to work holistically towards sustaining the resources on which livelihoods depend. The emphasis on sustainable food production addresses the humanitarian needs of communities. Coupling this with a focus on community action serves to enlarge the scope for groups and individuals to act more autonomously.

Improved Resilience of Children with Disabilities through DRR

01.03.2016 - 28.02.2017

The project seeks to improve the resilience of Children with Disabilities living in the Pongsan School for the Deaf through the development of their DRR capacities and the improvement of their living environment. The activities are considered as an inception of a further project focused on six schools for children with sensory impairments and lays an emphasis on the introduction of a School-Based Disaster Risk Reduction (SBDRR) Plan, which aims to strengthening the capacities of the children, their teachers and caretakers, the surrounding community and the relevant provincial and national authorities while also improving their infrastructure.

WFP - Food Aid Swiss Dairy Products (DPRK)

Through the usage of food aid in the form of Swiss dairy products, Swiss Humanitarian Aid contributes to the prevention and treatment of malnutrition, undernourishment, and disease. The SDC’s Humanitarian Aid administers the credit granted by parliament for a yearly amount of some CHF 20 million destined for the purchase of Swiss dairy products and their use for the benefit of the needy. Its task is to ensure a sustainable, targeted, and closely monitored food aid.
