The Embassy of Switzerland is proud to welcome Swiss author Monica Cantieni to Singapore.Cantieni will be presenting her debut novel at the Singapore Writers Festival 2015, “The Encyclopaedia of Good Reasons”, translated in English and published by Seagull Books. In 2011, Cantieni won the Swiss Book Awards for this novel published under the original German title “Grünschnabel”. Set in the time of the crucial 1970 Swiss referendum on immigration, Monica Cantieni introduces us to a host of colorful characters who struggle to make Switzerland their home. This is a book with a very warm heart, and rarely has a young girl’s narrative been at once so uproariously hilarious and so deeply moving. Cantieni will also present her novel at the Jakarta Biennale 2015 and at the Ubud Writers and Readers Festival in Bali, Indonesia. Monica Cantieni was born in 1965 in Thalwil, Switzerland, she lives in Wettingen (Switzerland) and Vienna. She works for Swiss Radio and Television (SRF) and has received various literary grants and scholarships for her short stories.

The Embassy of Switzerland is proud to present a photo exhibition with works by Swiss photographer Marc Ninghetto. The opening will take place on 22nd September at the Embassy, where the artworks will be exhibited for the upcoming months.Ninghetto has established his name in the fashion, jewelry and watch industry working on advertising campaigns over the last 15 years. After working for several years in this field, he began to feel a need to dedicate his time to purely personal projects and started to create artistic photographs. Using an original technique that he calls “digital sampling”, his pieces are a subtle fusion of sleek bodies and strong materials, tears and typography, each layer, transparent or opaque, uncovering or covering the subject of the photograph. His photographs are imbued of a sensitivity, which mainly focuses on women. The exhibition at the Swiss Embassy will mostly feature new works with Swiss related topics.Marc Ninghetto was born in 1972 in Geneva. He graduated from the Vevey school of Photography. In 2006 he founded his own artistic studio, “La Fabrique”. Ninghetto works and lives in Geneva. The exhibition is generously supported by Swiss International Air Lines.
