This Christmas carol is known throughout the world: on Christmas Eve “Silent night, holy night” rings out around the world in many different languages. Created 200 years ago in Austria when a priest from Salzburg, Joseph Mohr, and Franz Xaver Gruber, a teacher from Upper Austria, sang the song for the very first time at the St. Nikola Church in Oberndorf near Salzburg. Today, the song is performed in over 300 languages and dialects.
Spend an unforgettable evening and be uplifted by the 200th Anniversary celebration that will honour this much-loved Christmas song at Silent Night on Sunday, 2 December 2018 at 7:00pm, Church of Saint Teresa, 510 Kampong Bahru Road Singapore 099446. The Embassy is pleased to present, in partnership with the German Film Festival 2018, “The Little Witch” based on the famous novel “Die kleine Hexe” by Otfied Preussler at Golden Village, Plaza Singapura Sundays, 28th of October and 4th of November . A co-production between Switzerland and Germany and directed by Swiss born Michael Schaerer, this children’s movie was just release in January 2018.
“The Little Witch” received Best Cinematography award at the Bavarian Film Awards 2018. The little witch (Karoline Herfurth) has a big problem: She is only 127 years old and therefore much too young to dance with the other witches on Walpurgis Night. That’s why she secretly sneaks up on this most important of all witch festivals. As punishment, she must memorise all the spells from the great magic book within a year and show everyone that she is a good witch. But diligence and ambition are not really her strengths and, on top of that, the evil witch Rumpumpel (Suzanne von Borsody) is in her way.
