Hintergrund |
Although already quite advanced in the water and sanitation sector, Tunisia is characterized by wide disparities in development between its regions in the field of wastewater treatment and more generally in terms of infrastructure facilities and economic development. The National Sanitation Office (ONAS) manages 110 WWTPs and thus covers the connection of about 6 million people (out of a total urban population of 7 million). After developing sanitation infrastructure since the late seventies in the main cities of Tunisia, ONAS is now focusing on achieving WWTPs in small and medium size towns. |
Ziele |
- Contribution to improving the health situation in places covered by the program. - Contribution to the protection of groundwater resources and surface. - Contribution to the improvement of existing WWTPs by providing ONAS with reliable data and tailor made courses for the staff. - The program also contributes to the economic development of disadvantaged governorates through a regional rebalancing of investments in basic infrastructure. |
Mittelfristige Wirkungen |
Domestic, commercial and possibly industrial discharges are collected, cleaned and disposed properly, effectively, ecologically and hygienically. The operation of the related process is sustainably financed. ONAS? ability to measure the effectiveness of the operation in its WWTPs is improved, as well as its capacity for training the staff specially for the employees responsible for collecting measurements. |
Resultate |
Erwartete Resultate: Construction of sewage systems, transfer pipes, disposal systems and WWTPs in the cities of the program. ONAS has the organizational tools, and the technical, financial and human resources to ensure the functioning of the treatment systems and maintenance. The quality and reliability of in situ measurements in targeted WWTPs is improved. The ability of ONAS Training Department to develop and implement training programs is increased. |
