In March, the Embassy of Switzerland joined fellow members of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (IOF) in celebrating Francophonie Days - a vibrant showcase of linguistic and cultural diversity rooted in the French language. This year’s celebrations marked not just a moment in March, but the beginning of year-long series of events, affirming Switzerland’s commitment to the values of La Francophonie.

As part of its cultural contribution, the Swiss Embassy hosted two public events in Dar es Salaam. On March 25, families and film enthusiasts gathered at the Alliance Francaise for a screening of the award-winning Swiss animated film Ma vie de Courgette (My Life as a Zucchini), a touching story that embodies themes of resilience and human connection. Just a few days later, on March 28, the Swiss band Noir & Gerber gave a dynamic live concert at the Alliance Francaise, blending contemporary sounds with a Swiss artistic flair.

As part of the lineup of events, on March 24, the group of francophone ambassadors also met with Ms. Nefertiti Mushiya Tshibanda, Permanent Representative of the IOF to the African Union, reinforcing ties within the Francophonie community in the region.

The celebrations in Dar es Salaam are not over. In May, a Francophonie football tournament will bring together teams in a spirit of friendly competition and cultural exchange. Additional activities are scheduled throughout the year, reflecting the dynamic and evolving nature of the Francophonie community.

Switzerland, a member of the IOF since 1996 and now its third-largest contributor, remains steadfast in its commitment to the organization’s goals.
