Swiss Ambassador visits a Swiss-financed project on women’s economic empowerment in Gusar

Swiss Ambassador Muriel Peneveyre, Deputy Regional Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office for the South Caucasus, Alberto Hernandez, Deputy Chairperson of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs Ms. Sadagat Gahramova, and UN Development Programme Deputy Resident Representative, Ms. Charu Bist, visited on 26 April 2022 the Women Resource Center (WRC) in Gusar, which was funded by the Swiss government through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The purpose of the visit was to witness the progress of the Swiss-financed Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) project, under which the WRC in Gusar was inaugurated in 2019.


Swiss-supported project kick-starts in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic

Representatives of the Swiss Embassy/Swiss Cooperation Office visited Nakhchivan to attend the launch of a project in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) on 1 March, 2022. The project entitled “Educate Women for Family Welfare” is to be implemented by the Azerbaijan Micro-Finance Association (AMFA) in cooperation with the State Committee for Family, Women and Children of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The aim of the project is to strengthen the capacities of women in NAR to enable them to manage household finance, as well as increase their employment opportunities by equipping them with skills and seed capital needed to start their own business. Throughout the project, 128 rural women and their families will be reached out to achieve this goal.

Bern, 20.10.2020 - The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) has allocated CHF 1 million for the humanitarian operations of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The FDFA also calls for an immediate stop to the violence in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Attacks on the civilian population and civilian objects must cease. The parties to the conflict are called upon to comply with international humanitarian law.
