This project is situated in the Mszana Dolna Region (Malopolskie Voivodship) in southeastern Poland. The air pollution and emission levels in in this region are substantially higher than in Western European countries. The participating communes are located close to UNESCO World Biosphere Reserves (Tatra and Babia Gora mountains), National Parks and Natura 2000 areas, thus the high air pollution jeopardizes the vulnerable fauna and flora of this protective area. Consequently, this project aims at increasing energy efficiency and reducing emissions of greenhouse gases in the region.

Contexto

The project's overall objective is to increase the share of renewable energy sources and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in a total of six public and 3'820 residential buildings located in six towns and villages. The project contributes to the implementation of the Polish government's energy policy (particularly with regard to increasing the share of renewable energy in the national energy balance and reducing emissions).

Objetivos

The goal of the project is to improve health and living conditions for the whole population in the covered region and to improve environmental conditions, particularly with regard to air quality, in the covered region.

Grupos destinarios

The direct beneficiaries are carefully selected public institutions and private households located in six municipalities of the Malopolskie Voivodship in southeastern Poland. They will not only benefit from reduced emissions and better air quality, but also from a higher disposable income as less conventional fuel needs to be purchased. Indirect beneficiaries are the approximately 70'000 inhabitants of the six municipalities as well as visitors due to reduced emissions and better air quality.

Actividades
  • Purchase and installation of complete solar systems for public buildings for domestic hot water production.
  • Purchase and installation of complete solar systems for residential buildings for domestic hot water production.
  • Awareness raising and training courses to ensure that the new renewable energy systems are used and maintained properly and that accompanying energy saving measures are taken.
Resultados

Resultados obtenidos:

  • Solar thermal systems installed on 3,909 private buildings
  • Solar thermal systems installed on six public buildings
  • Substantial reduction of CO, CO2, SO2, NOx and PM10 achieved.
