The project aims to reduce emissions by introducing renewable energy sources in the communes of Niepołomice, Wieliczka, Skawina and Kłaj in Southern Poland. The four communes foresee to install geothermal heat pumps, photovoltaic systems and solar collector installations on public buildings, like schools, health care facilities and student residences, as well as to equip private households located in the area of Natura 2000 sites with solar panels providing energy for heating and hot water.

Contexto

The project's overall objective is to improve air quality in the project region which is to a large extent a vulnerable and therefore protected nature area. This will be achieved by reducing emissions from domestic and public hot water systems as well as by using solar power for electricity and geothermal heat pumps for heat generation. It contributes to the implementation of the Polish government's energy policy (particularly with regard to increasing the share of renewable energy in the national energy balance and reducing emissions).

Objetivos

The goal of the project is to improve health and living conditions for the whole population in the covered region and to improve environmental conditions, particularly with regard to air quality, in the covered region.

Grupos destinarios

The direct beneficiaries are public institutions and private beneficiaries carefully selected to participate in this project. They will not only benefit from reduced emissions and better air quality, but also from a higher disposable income as less conventional fuel needs to be purchased. Indirect beneficiaries are the approximately 60'000 inhabitants of the four municipalities due to reduced emissions and better air quality.

Resultados

Resultados obtenidos:  

  • Solar systems have been installed on 4,058 residential and 26 public buildings.
  • Nine heat pumps and 20 photovoltaic systems have been installed on public buildings.
  • Thermomodernization of 40 public buildings.
  • LED lighting has been installed in 18 public buildings and 400 LED lamps have been installed as street lighting.
  • Substantial reduction of CO, CO2, SO2, NOx and dust emissions has been achieved.
