Renewable Energy Sources in the Wisloka River Basin

Air pollution and emission levels in Southern Poland are substantially higher than in Western European countries, due to the common use of coal for heating purposes. The project aims to improve air quality by introducing renewable energy sources in the Union of the Wisloka River Basin Communes. Solar systems for hot water production will be installed on private and public buildings, and photovoltaic systems for electricity generation will be provided to selected public buildings.

In line with the EU directive on renewable energy, Poland has set itself the goal of increasing renewable energy use to 15% of overall energy consumption. |
| Objetivos |
The project's overall objective is to improve air quality in the project region, which is a protected nature area. The project will reduce emissions caused by coal based heating systems by introducing renewable energy sources in the Wisloka River Basin region. Furthermore, solar power will be used to produce electricity for public buildings. |
| Grupos destinarios |
The direct beneficiary of this project is the Union of the Wisloka River Basin Communes as the institution responsible for the implementation of the project, as well as the 4’266 households participating in the project. Indirect beneficiaries are the 243'000 inhabitants of the region due to reduced emission and better air quality which is a result of the shift from coal to renewable energy sources. |
