A number of staff changes and conferments of ambassadorial titles have been announced for several Swiss representations abroad in 2024/2025, at the head office of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) and at the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research, as part of the FDFA's periodic transfer rotation and on the basis of appointments made by the Federal Council.

Appointments

Olivier Bangerter has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Islamic Republic of Iran, based in Tehran.

Andrea Baumann has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Armenia, based in Yerevan.

Jürg Burri has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Russian Federation, based in Moscow.

Pierre Hagmann has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Bulgaria, based in Sofia.

Krystyna Marty Lang has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the People's Republic of China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Mongolia, based in Beijing.

Dominique Paravicini has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, based in London.

Heinrich Schellenberg has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Spain and the Principality of Andorra, based in Madrid.

Léo Trembley has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Republic of the Congo and the Gabonese Republic, with residence in Kinshasa.

Anja Zobrist Rentenaar has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Estonia and the Republic of Lithuania, with residence in Riga.

Conferment of ambassadorial titles at the FDFA

Didier Chassot, most recently head of mission in Dar es Salaam, has been awarded the title of ambassador for his new role as head of the MENA – Europe Division and assistant director-general of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation at the FDFA in Bern.

Conferment of ambassadorial titles elsewhere

Roger Gschwend, most recently head of International Corporate Governance Standards at SECO in Bern, has been awarded the title of ambassador for his new role as ad interim head of World Trade and member of SECO's board of directors at the EAER in Bern.

Pietro Lazzeri, most recently head of mission in Brasilia, has been awarded the title of ambassador for his new role as head of Economic Cooperation and Development and member of SECO's board of directors at the EAER in Bern.

Simon Plüss, currently head of Arms Control and Arms Control Policy at SECO, has been awarded the title of ambassador for his new function as head of Export Controls and Sanctions and member of SECO's board of directors at the EAER in Bern.
