Bilateral relations Switzerland–the Comoros

Bilateral relations between Switzerland and Comoros are good but not very extensive. Options to strengthen ties are therefore under consideration, particularly in terms of scholarships and support for NGOs.

Key aspects of diplomatic relations

Switzerland has set out a strategy for sub-Saharan Africa for 2021–24.

In 2007 the Swiss ambassador in Antananarivo, Madagascar, was also accredited to Moroni. However, Comoros does not currently have an embassy or consulate in Switzerland.

Although economic and trade relations between Switzerland and Comoros are limited, there is potential for development.

Cooperation in education, research and innovation

Researchers who are citizens of Comoros can apply to the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) for Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships.

History of bilateral relations

Two years after the Union of the Comoros gained independence in 1975, Switzerland established diplomatic relations with the new state. From 1977 to 2007, the Swiss embassy in Tanzania was responsible for relations with Comoros.
