Bern, Press releases, 26.07.2010

On 26 July, President Doris Leuthard, accompanied by Federal Councillor Micheline Calmy-Rey, will receive the President of the Republic of Macedonia, Gjorge Ivanov, accompanied by Foreign Minister Antonio Milososki. The official meetings will take place at the Lohn country residence and be followed by a lunch hosted by the President of the Swiss Confederation.

The discussions will focus on issues regarding bilateral relations between Switzerland and Macedonia, cooperation between the two countries within regional and multilateral organisations, as well as the region of the western Balkans. Due in particular to the contribution of the Macedonian community in Switzerland and the commitment on the part of Switzerland to technical cooperation in Macedonia, the two countries maintain close relations on various levels. The aim of this meeting at the highest level is to further enhance these relations. The handover of the chairmanship of the committee of ministers of the Council of Europe from Switzerland to Macedonia on 11 May in Strasbourg also contributed to strengthening the excellent cooperation between the two countries on a multilateral level.
